These poems were received by email from one of our classmates.  The first she wrote before the reunion.  The second was received after our reunions.
I thought you would enjoy~

West High School

Class of 88’

20 years?!... where did they go?

…and all of the friends we used to know?

From to state to state to just down the street

the search was on, so that we all could meet.

One by one we have been found,

in hopes that we all could gather around

to share memories and stories from ‘back when’

and reconnect with each other every now and again.

Whether you followed your head or followed your heart

someone, somewhere has wondered ‘what kept us apart?’

…Wondered how you were, or missed your smile,

for that special person, they’d have walked a mile.

If your asking ‘why didn’t I ever tell them..??’, now is your chance

to mend the fences, or ask them to dance.

Or if you truly just miss your old friend from the past

How are they doing?.... you won’t know till you ask!

Right, wrong, or indifferent we are forever entwined

by relationships that shaped who we are… or kept us in line.

The families, careers and friendships that we treasure today

stem from lessons learned from the past that our lives portray.

If there is one thing I’ve learned, it would be this…

the memories of high school seem more and more like bliss.

The halls of West High School are forever embossed,

with memories of us all where our paths crossed.

For those we remember that could not be here today

whether because of prior commitments, or miles, or have passed away.

Remember them fondly as part of our class, and your friend… or more,

take the time to reach out, none of us know what the future has in store.

A genuine THANK YOU to those who took the time

whether creating a website, planning a reunion, or searching online

…or sending in pictures sure to make someone smile,

those are your friends that would ‘walk a mile’.

Class of 88’ still going strong

the 08’ reunion proved that all along

the ones that we cherished from long ago

a reunion of friends, not just for show.

One by one we gathered and filled the room

with pictures and yearbooks as if class would resume.

The friends we made 2 decades ago

showed up if for nothing more than to say ‘Hello’

…or wrap you in a hug and say ‘I miss you friend’.

‘I’ve missed your smile, I won’t pretend’.

‘How’s your family’, ‘Where have you been?’

with friends it feels like coming home again.

‘You’ve changed a bit, but not so much’…

‘I hope that we can keep in touch’.

We took the time to reminisce,

..not long ago I called it bliss...

Like gathering in the halls before the next bell

were the same old friends that we knew so well.

20 years ago we called them cliques

if you needed a friend, you had your pick.

You may be wondering ‘what took so long…’

with friends is where we all belong.

Past or present…old or new

friends are what get us through.

Like coming home after a long hard day

if you need to talk, they will stay.

We’ve all been blessed throughout the years

with good times, bad times, laughter and tears.

No matter where life took us, or how far we ran

we haven’t forgotten where it all began.

No matter how you choose to get on with your life

with parents, siblings, children, husband or wife…

Remember one lesson we’ve learned so well

…what will happen tomorrow no one can tell.

KEEP IN TOUCH!!
